Personal Affairs: Season 1 Episode 1

So I've just watched the first episode of Personal Affairs on the BBC iPlayer and while some scenes weren't terribly pleasant I found it pretty enjoyable. The Drama/Comedy follows four PAs working for a selection of unhinged execs in a fancy London office, but one of them goes missing and it's up to the other to find out what's happened.

Episode 1: A Decent Proposal

Things get off to a snappy start as the characters are imedietely threatened at gun point and we are told that something terrible has happened. But what could it be?

We are taken back 3 weeks before the gun incident as each PA goes to work. Since we don't have actuall names for any of them they'll need make-shift ones for now. The Short-Haired one arrives from the subway and trips over her foot. The Blonde one embarresses herself infront of a couple of bussines men. The Fur-Covered one and her friend are asked by two men on the street to lift up their tops, which her friend is only too happy to oblige to, Fur tells him that no-one see's her "pupies" for free, only the first minute and it's already risque I wonder what the rest of this show's like. The last PA (the Ginger One) to be shown is driven in with her boss who is having his birthday and is given a digital version of his assisstant, as she gets out of the car we are shown that he has just forgotten to propose to her.

As they enter the office we find out that the Ginger One is called Grace and the Short-Haired one has entered a talent contest called "Wizard of Ozz Dare to Dream"... Your guess is as good as mine. Jane (a pompus irritating boss, the one you love to hate) says she doesn't need Grace anymore followed by what seems to be a daily occurence of insulting the Blond One. One of the Blond One's (Lucy it seems) bosses is still in France when he needs to be in a meeting with a client (which the Fur-Covered One has surprisingly not slept with) and she threatens to eat her own head.

As each boss arrives they seem to dream about the PAs in many different ways, it must be exhausting work for them to do their jobs and act out these fantasies. Lucy's Large Man is still in France, they assisstants contemplate who Rock might be proposing too while he tries to defend his decision to wear burgendy socks with his suit.

Rock has proposed to Grace who is not at all thrilled at the prospect and does her very best to squirm her way out of it. During a meeting it is learnt that the office will be under a much higher level of security. It seems Grace has a secret lover!! Short-Haired One overhears and she instantly denies it, very badly as well (worthy of Serena). Despite the obvious signs that Grace is giving off, Rock is still determined, he is in fact the most persistent proposer I have ever seen, can this guy not take a hint! Lucy stresses further over the Large Man from France, as Grace makes another secret phone call.

Don’t worry we’ll deal with Rock. If I can get on Dare to Dream we can definitely sort this.

Because the similarity in the two situations is uncanny

Some of the best scenes of the episode. How much fun must they have had filming that Wizard of Ozz scene and I think Sid (The Emo Goth One) may become one of my favourite characters and also one of the temps in the office. The Short-Haired One (Midge) attempts to be friends with her with her Dare to Dream encouragement. The scene with the Large Man on the trolley was very good, even semi-concious he still has time to feel up Grace's legs, if only ordinary life was this exciting!

The Fur-Covered one (who still doesn't seem to have a name) tries the lift only to find it out of action and being worked on by the "puppy" lover that she met on the street earlier in the day, and ends up having sex with him in the lift fully clothed. Seriously this show is really giving Nate a run for his money.

Jane and Grace have an arguement which leads to Grace going to the bathroom and pulling her (fake, I hope) eyelashes out.

The search for Grace cointinues as Lucy and the Fur One interrogate Midge about Grace's secret lover by threatening to burn Heat magazine. Midge is knocked out of Wizard of Ozz Dare to Dream and sujests they call the police about Grace.

So Sid is in with a man who looks like he's come from a Charles Dickens novel, to kill Rock and steal alot of money. And Lucy is pregnent! Only the first episode and there' already more scandal than Gossip Girl itself.

The PAs go to Grace's appartment building, Lucy is sick and by the looks of it she can't eat much at all (not a nice scene). they learn that Grace's room has been trashed, they find her diary and learn her mystery man's name is Adam. They also meet the neighbour who tells them that the mystery man dragged Grace from her house drunk at about 10:00pm and was also wearing a rather nice Indiana Jones hat.

Morning at the office delivers to us a flustered Sid who has been left to answer all of the constantly ringing phones and after a "talk" with Simon begins fantasising about him and Rachel comes in sporting a rather ott wig to go ontop of her already enormous hair.

The Fur One and Midge ramble on about babies to the annoyance of Lucy who hasn't even told her husband Bob, who turns out to be the person the Fur One slept with in the lift, the scandal's pouring into this programme and it doesn't look like it's going to stop anytime soon. And it seems the Fur one finaly has a name, Nichole.

These interviewers remind me of the ones from the Apprentice; completely uncaring for the feelings of the interviewees.

So Midge has slept with Robbie once again, and once again fully clothed, it must be a running theme in this show. She also has a child, when she was 14 at a party which she confesses to Sid who is beginning to turn alot more friendly. Jane and Rachel feud over who got the job from the interview, Jane finds Lucy's pregnency tests in the bin and outs her secret.

Rock seems alot less happy during this part of the episode and Sid seems to be very understanding all of a sudden I wonder how long this'll last. Nichole finds a picture of "Adam" in Grace's diary who Midge identifies as someone she met at a party but she says he died 10 years ago, so what's he doing on a 2002 photo? I swear they're not going to have any travesties left for the next episode at this rate. Bob pleads with Nichole not to tell Lucy that they slept together, to which she agrees even when he ends up smelling her as she goes into the lift (without him this time). The episode ends with Sid and the Charles Dickens man scheming with a bottle of wine and some rather catchy closing credits.

Despite being slightly rude/crude/risque the episode was satisfying watch, and for now I shall follow this series. And since this was my first ever T.V show recap I will need a bit of practice on putting screenshots on.

Harry Potter count down.

The arrival of the next Harry Potter film is imminent. So it's seems only right to have FIFW's very own Harry Potter count down. Enjoy. Not that there really is much to enjoy but anyway...

Even though they havn't cast me for the film I still have a feeling it's going to be an epic success. Get your tickets as quick as you can people, we have a feeling this one's going to sell out fast!

Gossip Girl: What's the difference between gossip and scandal? So glad you asked UES forever. Anyone can commit a minor indiscretion and generate a day's worth of buzz, but in order for gossip to birth a true scandal, it requires the right person to be in the wrong place. Take one "it" girl on a pedestal, add a crowd eager to see her fall, and give them the means to knock her down.
